Former World Best Player George Weah Wins Presidential Election

Ex- Liberia International and 1995 Fifa World Player of the Year has defeated the incumbent vice president to win the presidential election in the West African country.

Weah has taken to Twitter to thank all his supporters, saying that he plans to liberate the country.

 It is with deep emotion that I want to thank you, the Liberian people, for honouring me with your vote today. It is a great hope.  

The former AC Milan striker becomes the 25th president of the country.

His opponent, 73-year-old Joseph Boakai – who has been the country’s vice president for the last 12 years, got only two counties to vote for him.

The three-time African Footballer of the Year and the first African player to win the Ballon d’Or defeated Joseph Boakai and will now succeed the first elected female president in Africa, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

The football world congratulates the former Chelsea, AC Milan, PSG, Monaco, Manchester City and Marseille Player as he leads his country to greater heights.
